COVID-19: Pakistan's confirmed cases jumps to 29,465, recovery rate rose to 8,023

The number of confirmed COVID-19 cases in Pakistan rose to 29,465 on Sunday after new infections were confirmed in the country.

The province-wise break up of the total number of cases are as follows:

Total confirmed cases: 29,465

• Sindh: 10,771

• Punjab: 11,093

• Khyber Pakhtunkhwa: 4,509

• Balochistan: 1,935

• Islamabad Capital Territory: 641

• Gilgit-Baltistan: 430

• AJK: 86

Deaths: 639

• Khyber Pakhtunkhwa: 245

• Sindh: 189

• Balochistan: 24

• Gilgit-Baltistan: 4

• Punjab: 192

• Islamabad Capital Territory: 5

Officials have recorded more than 4.02 million cases and more than 279,000 deaths since the virus emerged in China in December.

KP Govt approves 500-bed hospital to cope with coronavirus

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Chief Minister Mahmood Khan has approved establishment of a 500-bed emergency hospital in Peshawar to deal with a sharp increase in the number of coronavirus positive patients.

This was revealed by Finance and Health Minister Taimur Khan Jhagra in a tweet on Sunday.

“In every crisis, an opportunity. Today, we can build on what PTI’s work of the last few years, & take KP’s healthcare system to the next level. The CM has approved a 500-bed emergency hospital in Peshawar, where cases are greatest, to deal with the surge capacity for Covid-19,” he tweeted.

Pakistan climbed to the 20th spot on the global coronavirus ranking

Pakistan climbed to the 20th spot on the global coronavirus ranking on Sunday after the nationwide tally of COVID-19 patients crossed 30,000 as Sindh reported 709 new cases.

According to the coronavirus tracker by John Hopkins University, the country is now ranked 27th with 648 deaths.

Earlier today, the national dashboard in its daily update had stated that 1,991 cases were detected in the country in the last 24 hours taking the national tally to 29,465 . This was the biggest single-day jump since February 26 when the first case was reported.

Sindh leads the tally with 11,480 cases, followed by Punjab with 11,093. In Khyber Pakhtunkhawa, 4,509 cases have been recorded while 1,935 cases have been reported in Balochistan. Gilgit Baltistan has reported 430, Islamabad 641 and AJK has reported 86 cases so far.
